The Wilds

This weekend we went up into Ohio to a place called The Wilds. It was a great trip and it is recommended. You can view our pictures at Flickr.

The Wilds was built on land donated by American Electric Power. The land was reclaimed from a strip mining site. The animals include rhinocerouses (rhinoceri?), giraffes, onagars (Persian donkey/horse type animal), Przewalski (pronounced Shevalski) wild horses, Sichuan Takin (an Asian buffalo sort of thing), American Bison, Bactrian Deer (one of which bugled at us), Sika Deer, Scimitar Horned Orex, Sable Deer, camels, zebras, and other sorts of things. I wish now I had taken a notebook or something to take better notes.

There are three different tours you can take. You can take a bus tour, an open air tour, or the extended open air tour. We went on the extended open air tour, which is the most expensive, but worth it. It included side trip down to the rhino barn , where we got to actually pet one of the rhinos. We also got to see a 3 week old giraffe.

Again, if you're anywhere near it, or even wish to take an overnight trip, it's recommended.

Thanks. I wish I could have been more detailed, but everything started running together.
